A (partial) eclipse of the heart
On August 21, 2017, a solar eclipse stretched across much of the continental US. The moon had casted a long shadow over Facebook’s Menlo Park campus, where both Ryan and Brandon worked. Despite being “co-workers” for over a year, they had worked at opposite ends of campus and had never met — that is until this fateful day. Brian, a mutual friend, invited Ryan and Brandon to observe the eclipse together at MPK 20.
Some calls it love at first sight — but Ryan simple doesn’t recall meeting Brandon at all. (He was more enamored by the solar eclipse) But to Brandon, this first encounter left such an impression that he decided to reach out to Ryan a few months later, when he moved to San Francisco.
The years since have been a whirlwind of adventure. Brandon’s obsessive desire to optimize and chase deals only fueled Ryan’s desire to fly (in business class) as often as time would allow.
Together they've traveled the world, while making memories and meeting new friends along the way.
